My dream had always been to retire, have a little farmhouse and have chickens and fresh eggs. When I saw this book I just had to have it. I wanted to read what the author had to say on raising chickens. The fact that it is also a cookbook was a bonus. My husband had a chuckle at my expense…He said “You are the only person I know that would sit there and read a book about chickens”. It was a fun read as the author recounts the process and hardships of taking care of chickens. It made me wonder whether I would be up for that task. I didn’t realize how much work went into it. I still long for freshly laid eggs though.
I learned some things about chickens that I never knew. I always thought eggs just came in brown and white. Didn’t realize they also came in blues and greens. Learned that you can tell the color of the eggs by the color of the chickens ears. How is that for neat trivia? Aside from an informational and very amusing read the book has great pictures and wonderful sounding recipes. Buy it!
